Protocols
Unicompartmental knee resurfacing:
- GP referral.
- Weight Bearing X-rays AP/lateral/skyline/Intercondylar. Centered
on the joint line.
- Chest X-ray
- ECG
- Bloods: FBC/ESR/Na/K/Creat/LFT/Hep B/Hep C titres/HIV.
Post operation:
- Clips removed day 12-14.
- Follow up X-ray week 3.

Total knee replacement:
- GP referral.
- Weight Bearing X-rays AP/lateral/skyline/Intercondylar. Centered
on the joint line.
- Chest X-ray
- ECG
- Bloods: FBC/ESR/Na/K/Creat/LFT/Hep B/Hep C titres/HIV/Cross match.
- 2 units of autologous blood
Post operation:
- Clips removed day 12-14.
- Follow up X-ray week 3.

Hip Resurfacing:
- GP referral.
- Weight Bearing X-rays AP/lateral/and AP Pelvis. Centered on the joint
line.
- Chest X-ray.
- ECG.
- Bloods: FBC/ESR/Na/K/Creat/LFT/Hep B/Hep C titres/HIV/Cross match.
- Two units of autologous blood.
- Bilateral hips no spine bone mineral density.
Post operation:
- Doppler ultrasound calf. Day 12-14 (Operated side)
- Clips removed day 12-14.
- Follow up X-ray week 3.

- Chest X-ray.
- ECG.

Fasting and admission details:
Most patients are admitted 2hrs prior to surgery, and fasting 4hrs before
scheduled operating time.
